was appointed Team Rector of Abingdon with pastoral responsibility for St Helen’s Church in 2006. Prior to that Charles had been Rector of the Church of the Transfiguration in Manhattan, USA, and had served in pastoral and theological teaching roles in both the Church of England and the Episcopal Church. A native of the State of Connecticut, Charles is a life-long Anglican. His ministry has been almost evenly divided between Britain and the United States. His interests include Christianity and art, the Orthodox Christian tradition, and the Anglican spiritual tradition. He has published three books, and numerous scholarly and popular articles and essays.
Christopher Fletcher-Campbell, MA (Oxon), ARCO, LRAM, ARCM,
was
appointed Director of Music and Organist of St Helen’s in 2007. A
life-long teacher, Christopher was Director of Music and Organist of
Bloxham School until taking up his post here. He continues his teaching
role at Abingdon School. Christopher is a percussionist and violinist
too, and is Director of the Oxford Studio Orchestra. He continues to
act as Leader/supervisor/assessor for the Duke of Edinburgh Award and
the Army Cadets.
Tim Hewes
Born in Abingdon, Tim lived in Sutton Courtenay until he moved to
Sheffield as a dental student. He lived there with his wife for seven
years. They had four children, who are now all in their
30’s. They eventually returned to the Abingdon area to
live, with Tim working in Oxford. He was Ordained Priest, in
2003, and is now Assisting Priest NSM here at St Helen’s.
ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF
Linda Barker, Church Administrator, oversees all aspects of administration and bookkeeping for St Helen’s. The Church Office is open to the public Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday of each week from 9.00 am to 2.30 pm. The Administrator can be contacted either by telephone (01235 520144) or e-mail (administrator@sthelens-abingdon.org.uk.). Queries to the clergy and other staff should be directed through the Church Office. The Administrator’s office is accessible through the entrance to the Church Centre off of St Helen’s Court.
Ann Moss, Head Verger, oversees the daily maintenance of the church, its ornaments and furnishings, and schedules the support of honorary and pro diem vergers for weddings, funerals and baptisms. The Head Verger can be contacted through the Church Office.
Anne Smithson, Archivist, maintains the church’s historic records, and executes all searches of registers. There are fees for all record searches. Please make contact with the Church Office concerning searches and fees. Correspondence to the Archivist should be addressed to ‘The Archivist’ c/o The Church Office St Helen’s Court, Abingdon OX14 5BS.
