James Howson began his ministry in Cogges and South Leigh after
his ordination as deacon at Christ Church Cathedral in Oxford on
2nd July 2000. He was ordained priest at Dorchester Abbey in
July 2001.
"I come from a small village called Weston Underwood (near Olney) in
Buckinghamshire, where the poet and hymn writer William Cowper once
lived. I studied music in Huddersfield and trained for teaching in
Didsbury, Manchester. I began my teaching career in Biggleswade before
moving to the Milton Keynes Music Centre, where I was an instrumental
teacher for eight years.
"I have taken an active part in church life over the years, helping with
Pathfinder Ventures and serving on the PCC and Deanery Synod. In 1994,
I was licensed as a Reader at a service in Witney by Bishop Anthony. I
served as a Reader in four rural churches, which kept me off and on the
streets on a Sunday!
"In 1997 I moved to Cambridge to beginning training for ordination. As
well as worshipping locally, I spent a month in a church in Hartlepool
and some time at a Young Offenders' Institution, as well as reading
books.
"I am very much looking forward to moving to Cogges and South Leigh and
journeying with you to further God's Kingdom."
