The Vicar
(since March 29th 2006)

I moved from Bristol in March of 2006 with my wife Gillian and our four children. We are very pleased to be living in Eynsham and excited by what we believe God wants to do in this village.

Revd John Underwood: Curate

John Underwood is one of the new breed of Ordained ministers known as "Ordained Local Ministry" or OLM for short. This is an 'unpaid' ministry and one which aims to be alongside and assist the vicar in whatever capacity is required.

I have now lived in Eynsham for 25 years having moved from the Kent/London borders in 1979 with Margaret and three children; Rebecca, Martin and Alan. Rebecca and Martin now have their own families and Alan is recently married. Within two weeks of arriving in Eynsham we went along to St Leonards to see what the services were like. We liked what we saw and more importantly heard, and have been worshipping there ever since.

I have recently retired but throughout my working life, well since 1965, I have had a number of jobs but they have all been connected in some way with computers and computing, commencing as a programmer in the far off days of Generation2 Main Frame computers. In addition to now having more time to assist the vicar in Parish work, I also organise Prayer Tours to North Korea.

Revd Andrew Atherstone: Curate

I work as one of the curates of St Leonard's and St Peter's, with particular responsibility for Bible teaching and ministry amongst young families. Catherine and I have three small children and we moved here as a family in the summer of 2005 from nearby Abingdon.

I also work as research fellow of the Latimer Trust ( www.latimertrust.org ), the successor to Latimer House which was founded in Oxford in the 1960s. The Trust seeks to provide biblical theology for today's church, in particular the Church of England and the wider Anglican Communion.

Helen Cobby: Youth Worker

My name is Helen Cobby and I am married to Dave. I have been involved with youth work for over 7 years now and like it so much that I've even got a degree in it!

For most of that time I've worked in the Diocese of Oxfordshire with the exception of 2 years when I worked as a Secondary Schools Youth Worker in Luton. I am a firm believer in taking year-outs, having taken 3 myself! I spent a year with the Baptist Missionary society on their 28:19 programme during which I spent 6 months in Nepal (incidentally it was on this programme that I met Dave - year-outs do have their advantages!), spent a year at Capernwray Bible School in Lancashire and also spent a year as an Assistant Youth and Children's Worker in Chesham Bois.

I came to work at St. Leonard's in June 2003 and love living and working here.  The heart of the youth work here is built on growing relationships, both with God, each other and with ourselves.
