General Notices

Swine flu care network
The Parish is trying to create a network of care for a possible flu epidemic. We all need a flu friend or two. A friend is someone who will collect medicines, food and other supplies for you if you cannot leave home. Please can you arrange to have two friends to act for you. The church would like to have an oversight of these arrangements, so that we can give full support to everybody. Please fill a form at the back of the church, and return it to the Parish Office or one of the Churchwardens. Anthony.
CONGREGATION PLANNED GIVING ENVELOPES
Please could we ask you not to overload the planned giving envelopes with coins as the paper they are made of is quite soft and many envelopes are bursting open. And a reminder that foreign coins are not acceptable, not even channel island coins. All cheques should be made payable to Kidlington PCC.
MONTSHIWA
Kathryn Ellis and Eleanor Williamson will be making another visit to Montshiwa in August, when they will be representing the Oxford Diocese at the Annual Family Weekend of the Kimberley and Kuruman Diocese in Mafikeng. They will be visiting and working with children affected by AIDS, particularly in the schools which we support. They also hope to visit other AIDS projects supported by the Oxford Diocese. In order to raise funds for this visit Anthony and Kathryn and Eleanor invite you to a "Cheese and Wine Evening" at the Rectory on Saturday, July 18th from 6.30. Please indicate if you wish to attend by signing the list or leaving your name at the Parish Office. Everyone, including families, will be welcome, and donations will be gratefully received.
PARISH BBQ: Thankyou
to everyone who helped to make the day of the BBQ so enjoyable and successful! We are pleased to say we made a profit of £1481.07 which is £7.88 more than last year!
NEW KEY
Have you noticed the smart new key to the South door? Nobody can remember this door being locked by a key! Phil Sampson has managed to make this new key by taking the lock apart and creating a new key. We are most grateful for Phil's skill. Anthony.
CONGRATULATIONS
and our very best wishes for the future from all St. John's congregation to Ikechi Anya on signing a two year contract to play football for the Spanish club, Sevilla.
CONGRATULATIONS
to Joanna Karatzio on achieving her Master of Studies degree in History of Art at St. Anne's College, Oxford.
ALTAR SERVERS NEEDED!
Over the past year or two several of our team have left and more are likely to leave in the near future. Servers help to ensure the smooth running of the service by preparing things beforehand and assisting the priest during the service. This help is important when visiting priests are taking the service. Instruction will, of course, be given. If you think you can help in this essential service to St Mary's please speak to the Rector, Anthony Ellis. Thank you John Amor.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT 7th July
The lunchtime bible discussion group, will be meeting again on Tuesday 7th July beginning at 12 noon until 2pm, at St John's Vicarage (come to side door of vicarage next to church) We turn towards one of the 'minor prophets' in the Hebrew Scriptures: Micah (whose name means 'Who is like the Lord?') is one of the 8th century prophets and his message is primarily for the southern kingdom of Judah. Despite witnessing the fall of the northern kingdom, Israel, to Assyria, the people of Judah failed to learn the lesson that a similar fate could befall them. Micah foretells a disastrous but not hopeless future. "... and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?" Come and join us. Bring sandwiches with you, drinks provided.
