General Notices

BE PREPARED FOR SWINE FLU! NEW NOTICE. FLU FRIENDS
The Parish is trying to create a network of care for a possible flu epidemic. We all need to have a flu friend or two. A flu friend is someone who will collect medicines, food and other supplies for you if you get swine flu, so that you don't have to leave home. Please can you arrange to have two friends who can act for you. Please fill in the form at the back of the church (and keep a copy for yourself) and return it to the Parish office or give it to a Churchwarden. We ask you to also take home copies of the other information supplied.

If you don't have anyone to support you as a flu friend please contact the Parish Office on 372230 so that we can make a list of people who will need support in the event of you getting swine flu. We as the church would like to have an oversight of all the Flu friends so that we can give full support to everybody. Please let the Parish Office know if you are willing to act as a flu friend to someone who has no-one to support them.

HELP NEEDED TO OFFICE SIT Sep 7th-25th
Help is needed in the Parish Office while Trish is away on holiday - Answering the phone and taking messages, particularly on Fridays. From Monday 7th September to Friday 25th September.
MONTSHIWA
Kathryn Ellis and Eleanor Williamson will be making another visit to Montshiwa in August, when they will be representing the Oxford Diocese at the Annual Family Weekend of the Kimberley and Kuruman Diocese in Mafikeng. They will be visiting and working with children affected by AIDS, particularly in the schools which we support. They also hope to visit other AIDS projects supported by the Oxford Diocese. Any donations will be gratefully received.
CONGREGATION PLANNED GIVING ENVELOPES
Please could we ask you not to overload the planned giving envelopes with coins as the paper they are made of is quite soft and many envelopes are bursting open. And a reminder that foreign coins are not acceptable, not even channel island coins. All cheques should be made payable to Kidlington PCC.
ALTAR SERVERS NEEDED!
Over the past year or two several of our team have left and more are likely to leave in the near future. Servers help to ensure the smooth running of the service by preparing things beforehand and assisting the priest during the service. This help is important when visiting priests are taking the service. Instruction will, of course, be given. If you think you can help in this essential service to St Mary's please speak to the Rector, Anthony Ellis. Thank you John Amor.

We ask you to bring along your favourite Teddy and be prepared for singing, games, story, and eating, of course! If you would like to make a donation of £1 per family (on the day) towards the food, this would be very helpful but not obligatory! We look forward to hearing from you.
Looking Ahead

FOOD FOR THOUGHT Sep 8th
the lunchtime bible discussion group, will be meeting again on Tuesday 8th Sept beginning at 12 noon until 2pm, at St John's Vicarage. We are dipping into the rich treasury of the Psalms, with Psalms 1 to 15. All life is there, it is often said of these poems - sacred songs or prayers composed over many, many centuries, from the time of the kings in Jerusalem, through the exile in Babylon and afterwards. There is often an honesty about feelings expressed in these writings that has provided enduring support to many people. The pop star Bono describes the psalms as feeling like the blues, "Man shouting at God.... for me it's in his despair that the psalmist really reveals the nature of this special relationship with God. Honesty, even to the point of anger." (Revelations: personal responses to the books of the Bible, Canongate 2005, p 136) Come and join us. Bring sandwiches with you, drinks provided.
