FOODBANK IN KIDLINGTON
Churches Together in Kidlington, in association with the local cluster of Baptist churches, are looking into the possibility of establishing a FoodBank in Kidlington, which would provide non-perishable food items for people in emergency need. The foodbank works by agencies within the community (eg churches, health centres, etc) providing vouchers to those in need, who then go to a distribution centre to be given a nutritionally balanced parcel of food. Similar provision exists in Bicester and in Oxford city. We need a small group of people from across the churches to begin to work through the stages of making this happen in Kidlington. The co-ordinator for the group will be Joyce Rice (from Woodstock Baptist cluster) tel: 01869 249860 email joyce@parkfarmcottage.co.uk and the group is planning to meet on Tuesday 8th December, 8pm at 119 Oxford Road, Kidlington (home of Amy Thakurdas, from St Thomas More church). Please talk to me if you are interested, or contact Joyce directly. Thanks, Hilary
CONGRATULATIONS!
to David and Meghann Hewett on the birth of their son Joshua Peter! Baby Joshua was born in the early hours of Thursday morning on the 12th November. Both Meghann and Joshua are doing well!
SPONSORED RIDE OR STRIDE
Many thanks to Andrew Mclean and Anthony Ellis and all their sponsors, for participating in the Sponsored Ride and Stride in September. We raised a total of £488 for the Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust and our churches in Kidlington and Hampton Poyle. Marion Kubat.
Chapel Steward, New College
Do you love historic buildings? Do you love old churches and chapels? If so, you might enjoy being our Chapel Steward and taking care of our busy Chapel with its beautiful architecture and world famous choir. We are looking for someone who will not only keep our Chapel clean and in good order and look after the silver, but also might enjoy meeting some of the many tourists who visit the Chapel each year, as well as the Chaplain, Organist, Chapel Administrator, Verger and members of the Choir. Hours are 20 to 25 per week, normally Monday to Friday but with occasional weekends. Start times can be flexible. £8 per hour. Excellent benefits. Further information from Caroline Thomas, the Home Bursar, 01865 279560 or caroline.thomas@new.ox.ac.uk.

GLEBE HOUSE SERVICES Nov 1st
It is the Anglicans' turn to take the short & informal service at 3pm on Sunday, November 1st at Glebe House. If you can spare half-an-hour to come along and help with the prayers/readings or just to join in the hymns, it would be much appreciated. We would also welcome any ideas with regard to a theme. Pam Cooper and Sue Mills.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT Nov 3rd
The lunchtime bible discussion group will be meeting again on Tuesday 3rd November beginning at 12 noon until 2pm, at St John's Vicarage (come to side door of vicarage next to church) We are concluding a dip into the rich treasury of the Psalms, with Psalms 90 to 95 and 141 to 150. All life is there, it is often said of these poems - sacred songs or prayers composed over many many centuries, from the time of the kings in Jerusalem, through the exile in Babylon and afterwards. There is often an honesty about feelings expressed in these writings that has provided enduring support to many people. Come and join us. Bring sandwiches with you, drinks provided.
MOTHERS' UNION Nov 6th
Our next meeting is on Friday, November 6th in the Refectory at 9.45 for 10.00am. Rosemary Tucker, one of our members, will be speaking on the topic, 'Teamwork in the Bible and in the Church of England'. Everyone welcome. Please come along and give your support.
QUIZ NIGHT Nov 13th
Back by popular demand! A quiz night has been organised for Friday November 13th at St. John's Church, 7.30pm-10.00pm. A light supper will also be provided. No need to form a team, these will be allocated on the night. If you would like a lift to the event please do let us know- these will be provided at no extra cost. Tickets for the event are £3.50 per person, £10 for a family of 5 and £12 for a family of 6 and as well as having a good time the event will contribute towards parish funds. Tickets can be obtained from Sheila Alcraft, Jill and Robert Buckeldee, Ali and Nick Wharmby and from the parish office. Hope to see you there.
Bridge Magazine deadline Nov 16th
Please could all submissions for the Bridge magazine please be in by the 16th November. David Townsend.
GIVING AS MISSION Nov 17th
The Outreach and Mission sub-group of the PCC is meeting on Tues 17th November to discuss the allocation of funds that we, as a parish, have available to give away. We would be grateful to hear of causes you would like the parish to support in this way. We aim to support a wide range of causes if we can, from international mission agencies, national charities to local causes that may not hit the news headlines so much. Please give your ideas to me directly or to your churchwardens to pass on. Thanks, Hilary.
KIDLINGTON FAIRTRADE FAIR Nov 21st
10am - 4pm, at Exeter Hall. There will be plenty of stalls and opportunities for buying beautiful/useful Fair Trade items, so do come along. We also need help with a variety of tasks on the day - greeting people and selling raffle tickets, staffing a stall, serving refreshments. Many thanks to those who have already offered to help, but we do still need more, so please say if /when you can spare an hour or more, so we can arrange rotas to suit everyone. Also we are asking for cakes - both to serve with refreshments and to sell on the stall, so please get baking (using Fairtrade ingredients if you can!). It is a great help if we have these before the Fair actually starts, so do let us know if we can collect them in advance. Contacts are Jill & Robert Buckeldee (tel:374809, jillbuckeldee1@mac.com), Janet Warren (tel: 376266, janetwarren@talk21.com), Margaret Day (tel: 375916, margaret.day12@btinternet.com). Hope to see you there!

He was the first HIV-positive African priest to break the silence surrounding the disease, and founded ANERELA and the Hope Institute. He is a lively speaker who is currently working with Christian Aid. Kathryn Ellis
PARISH ADVENT QUIET DAY Nov 27th

CHARITY LUNCH Nov 28th
A charity lunch will take place in the Refectory on Saturday, 28th November from 12.30pm, in aid of GLEBE HOUSE. Is there anyone who would be willing to help with this, either as a soup maker (I have had 2 offers for this but could do with at least one more), or to help in the kitchen, especially afterwards? If you can help, would you please let me know as soon as possible. Thank you. Pam Cooper.
ADVENT IS A JOURNEY Nov 29th
The Travelling Nativity: Posada What is a Posada? The Posada is a South American tradition that is enjoyed across the world. This journey recreates the journey of Mary and Joseph as they made their way towards Bethlehem. Figures of Mary and Joseph travel around from home to home, with people taking it in turns to create a haven for them to stay on their journey.. perhaps sharing a short reading or prayer (resources are provided). This Travelling Nativity, or Posada, can be seen as an opportunity to encourage us to take some time to reflect on Advent, the time of getting ready to enter the mystery of Christmas. The journey begins on Sunday 29th November at St Johnâs Church and the figures return to St Johns at the Crib Service on Christmas Eve. We would like to encourage people from across the parish to join in as part of your preparation for Christmas ..contact Hilary for more information and to be included on the itinerary.
ADVENT SUNDAY Nov 29th
St Mary's Choir will lead a service of Music and Readings for Advent at 6.30pm on Sunday 29th November in St Mary's. This is a very atmospheric service and a thoughtful and uplifting way of marking the beginning of the Advent Season.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT Dec 1st
the lunchtime bible discussion group, will be meet again on Tuesday 1st December beginning at 12 noon - 2pm, at St John's Vicarage (come to side door of vicarage next to church) We are stepping into a book that has intrigued, mystified and attracted many: the Book of Revelation, beginning with chapters 1 to 3. It is a book full of poetic writing, said to be Emily Dickinson's favourite book of the Bible. It is a book of visionary excess with stars and swords and angelic beings, a beast rising out of the sea, voices sounding like thunder or trumpets, four horses heralding an apocalypse. In 'Revelations: personal responses to the Books of the Bible', the writer and poet Kathleen Norris writes: '.. i/t is also an ordinary human vessel, a letter meant to be read aloud. It begins and ends with a blessing upon those who read it to others, and those who hear and heed it.'/ Come and join us. Bring sandwiches with you, drinks provided.
