Tour of our church

Although our church is only 40 years old there are still lots of interesting things to see. Here’s a taster for you to enjoy. You are welcome to come and see for yourself (click here for times of services and activities).

The West Window
The design came out of community grief and a desire for hope and a new beginning. Following the tragic deaths of 2 teenagers, then two sisters, and another two young people, all from our community or at school here, it was felt that the window should reflect the darkness and pain of grief, felt particularly by pupils at Grange School, Quarrendon Upper and Meadowcroft Middle schools. Hence the cross begins in dull and dark colours, moving through clouds to lighter colours and sunlight for resurrection and new hope. The colours also represent the earth and land of Quarrendon.

St Peters Banner
The original St Peters banner, used in services at the Community Centre, before we had a church building.
It was also used to lead processions around the estate, on St Peters day and other special occassions. People would come out of their houses to see what was going on.

The cross keys are a traditional symbol of St Peter. Jesus told Peter that he would give him the keys to the 'kingdom of heaven'.

Mothers Union Banner
This is the second Mothers Union banner. It was dedicated in 2000. The original banner dates when the Mothers Union was started - it is being preserved and is about to be returned to church.

Anniversary Banner
This was made by children of our Key Club to celebrate the 40th Anninversary of the laying of the foundation stone. It reminds us that Peter was a fisherman before Jesus called him to be a disciple.

font
The Font
Although this lead lined font is much older than our church building, if was buffed up to look as new, and installed as part of the design. Along with the pulpit (which was brought from St Johns, Cambridge Street, when it closed in the early 1960s) and the organ, it is a reminder that the Christian Church is a lot older than the 40 years of St Peters, Quarrendon.
The water of baptism is symbol of dying to the old life and being born to a new life. If you want to know more about being baptised, or having a child or baby baptised (Christened) please contact one of the clergy.

Communion Service
During a communion service (or Eucharist) - the people are going to the front of the church to receive bread and wine. This is a reminder of the body and blood of Jesus, and that Jesus died so that we can have life.
