 Come
and see if you would like to sing with a happy, friendly choir.
You may not know much about church music, but singing in St. Giles' Choir gives
boys the chance to experience the fun of being part of a group that's doing
something a bit different. It isn't for everyone - but it might be for you! If
you think you might enjoy singing special music with other boys, why don't you
get in touch with the Vicar or the Choir Director, Mrs. Cynthia Hall (01865
310686), who can arrange to meet you and find out whether you've got what it
takes to be a choirboy.
 The
Rewards: * We pay you -
quite well!
* It's fun to sing with other boys, and know that your voice counts.
* It's friendly
* You learn new skills - singing, of course, and sight-reading. You can track
your progress: you will go through the Royal School of Church Music's Chorister.
Training Scheme, and have short individual lessons as well as choir practices. You
might even end up a Bishop's Chorister - many of our choirboys do! The
Job:is to sing at services and practices. These
are the times: CHOIR PRACTICES
Fridays 7.00 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.
Sundays 10.15 a.m. to 10.25 a.m. SUNDAY
SERVICES
Morning 10.30 a.m.
Evening 6.30 p.m. The Opportunity: is
to sing some of the best church music that has been written. Apart from some
College choirs, St. Giles' is now the only church in Oxford with an all-male
choir. This gives boys the chance to sing a College Choir type of service, while
at the same time not making such heavy demands upon their time as those choirs
do. How
to become a Choirboy: Boys aged between 6 and 12 can enter the choir after taking some simple tests. No previous experience is necessary, although being able to read well is an advantage. An
Invitation:To find out more, please
contact the organist and choir director, Mrs. Cynthia Hall, 22 Hayward Road,
Oxford. (01865) 310686,
email organist@st-giles-church.org.
We can arrange for you to be in the choir for a trial period, to give you time
to decide whether this is for you. Join us:
